Dean Evenson, Pandit Shivnath Mishra, Deobrat Mishra - Raga Cycle.
The Mishras, from Varanasi, the holy city of Shiva on the Ganges river, have been musicians for generations. On this beautifully ambient recording of 'near-classical' Indian sitar, two generations of the musical family join Dean Evenson and other artists. A gorgeous exploration of sound that is mediative and relaxing. Last year we were delighted when Pandit Shivnath Mishra and his son Deobrbat Mishra dropped by Travelers to visit and see the shop. Seattle has a special connection with the duo, and Seattle's own Gina Sala's lovely voice is heard on this highly recommended CD.

Hans Raj Hans - Tera Ishq.
One of our own imports from India, Tera Ishq, released in the Fall of 2003, was a big hit in India. Hans Raj Hans, known mostly for pop and bhangra hits, turns to Sufi mystical lyrics in this passionate collection of songs. He captures a spirit that is at once spiritually reverent and ecstatic. A tour de force for Hans Raj Hans.
