The long-awaited film by one of the participants
in the Kumbha Mela Project 2001 (KMP2001), the Seattle-connected group
of artists, writers, musicians and media specialists who traveled to India
in 2001 to observe and participate in the great bathing festival that has
endured in India since ancient times. Travelers has been participating
as background support, cheering-on the project since before the great festival.
We have hosted several events before and after, most recently the extraordinary
Kumbha
Mela Sonic Travelogue with Doug Haire, James R. Cobb III and, of course,
David Brunn, who produced the music for this film. We are truly honored
that Seattle-based documentary film maker Nadeem Uddin has allowed us to
host the world premier of Maha Kumbh Mela: Songs of the River.
Naturally, an auspicious date has been chosen
for the premier. It is Diwali, or Deepavali, the Hindu festival of light
that brightens the darkness of that moonless night. There will be sweets
and celebration. Blessings of Lakshmi, Ganesh and Saraswati will
be upon the film and upon us all.
